Thanks for reporting and fixing this. The bug was introduced in r548
(Git commit afd5d9b) an has been present since release 0.6.

Your patch has been merged and also fixes in the 0.8 and 0.7 branches.

I'll have a look at your second patch to change h_errnop return value
but I'll have to see if this has portability consequences (these APIs
aren't very well documented).
