nss-pam-ldapd 0.8.4 includes the ability to specify the DNS domain to be
queried:
uri DNS:example.com
Before that and by default the current system's domain (should be
similar to the output of hostname --domain) is used.
One thing to note about this is that this lookup is done when nslcd
starts up. This means that if networking is not yet available it may
fail.
