After reading your docs a bit...
Question: What is the benefit of using your nss-ldapd over the normal
padl software with nscd running?

I have been using nss-ldapd on several systems without any major issues.
This release is mainly intended as a bugfix release and introduces some
code cleanups and improvements before the upcoming major overhaul of the
LDAP query code.
