Hi Jakub,
Yes, AD is the backend.
Your recommendation was right on:
map passwd homeDirectory "/home/$sAMAccountName"
That is the incantation that got me where I wanted to be. I thought I'd tried it but my list of prior failures indicates otherwise :)
Thank you!

Hi Chris,What is the LDAP server used as backend for nslcd? It looks like AD for me from the first look. I'm not familiar with AD.Is there an uid attribute containing username? If it's AD try $sAMAccountNameIf you have access to LDAP logs you can easily check what attributes are requested by searches from nslcd. Or you can run nslcd in debug mode - it's there too.Best,JJOn Fri, Apr 21, 2017 at 10:51 PM, Chris Marget <chris [at] marget.com> wrote:--I'm looking for clues as to why my attempts to "map passwd homeDirectory" are failing. My nslcd.conf file is here: https://pastebin.com/raw/jmu1DnCp In the comments of that paste are various attempts at mapping the home directory, each with the result it produced.Currently my user looks like this:# getent passwd cmarget
cmarget:*:1407:1407:Chris Marget:/home/:/bin/bash
Any idea why $uid isn't expanding to 'cmarget'? That seems to be the popular way of mapping the home directory to the username.Thank you!
