IIRC it should have been installed by make install (in case you compiled 
yourself).

Personally I'm using packages provided by the Linux distribution I use.

It's not a folder. Please re-read my message more carefully. And note that the 
lib folder
is arch-specific. You have to find out yourself for your system.

For example on my openSUSE system (note the /lib64 instead of /lib):
